2017 Northwest Regional Meet, Coos Bay OR, June 22-24
We returned from North Bend NW Regional Meet Monday afternoon after very enjoyable five days of great weather and Model A events, some better than others considering minor breakdowns. Tom Ryan organized a driving poker game with prizes awarded at the end. The prizes were $50, $25, $25 gift certificates donated by Benny’s and $20 cash from entry fees. As we were leaving ODOT two cars were lost at the first turn, hard to explain, something about automatic pilot controls. After an hour, all was fine as we were a group again near Hwy 26. We traveled Hwy 99W and Hwy126 to Florence. As we approached Mapleton in a very wooded area two cars flamed out, mine and Bill Peden’s. My reserve gas can brought our car to Mapleton – about 26 miles, Bill not so lucky with no reserve can, so Roger returned with fuel. When we reached Florence at Corley & Nancy’s I discovered my alternator wasn’t charging my battery due to a wiring problem. We left the car there for the night on a charger and Mike Blick and I returned the next morning and found Corley had corrected the wiring problem. Thursday afternoon was spent at the Raffle and Hospitality rooms, those homemade cookies were very good. Friday was Swap Meet, Car Games and NWRG Meeting. After dinner, we completed our poker game, the winners were Leonard $50, Ron $25, Mike La Fleur $25 and Bob $20, thank you Tom & Benny. Saturday was a scenic drive and farewell dinner. Sunday, we traveled Hwy 101 North along the coast enjoying the scenery and our experiences. Somewhere North of Lakeside Leonard lost his exhaust pipe at the manifold, something about the brass nuts coming loose. Sunday night we stayed in Lincoln City and Monday morning drove Hwy 101 to Nehalem then Hwy 53 to Hwy 26 then stopped at Camp 18 for lunch, very enjoyable as our trip was coming to the end.
